I created this illustration after a visit to Maryport, a town on the coast of Cumbria in the North-West of England. Maryport has a strong history in ship building and coal-mining, but like many other British seaside towns, has faced problems in unemployment and increased levels of deprivation. Despite this, it has a lot of charm and character, and with its port facing Scotland on the horizon, really captured my imagination.
